YOUR 5-DAY ADVENTURE
DAY 1 — MONDAY, January 11
Arrive in Mexico City
Welcome to Mexico!
Plan to arrive at Mexico City International Airport (MEX) in the late morning or early afternoon.
Airport transportation will take you to our hotel near the Historic Center of Mexico City.
After checking in, you’ll have the afternoon to explore on foot. Stroll the historic streets, discover shops and cafés, visit nearby attractions, enjoy dinner, or simply relax after your flight.
We’ve intentionally kept the first afternoon flexible so everyone has time to arrive and settle in.
Overnight: Mexico City hotel
Meals: On your own
Activity: Easy walking and exploring
DAY 2 — TUESDAY, January 12
Valle de Bravo & Forest Cabins
We’ll depart Mexico City at approximately 7:00 AM and travel toward the mountains and beautiful Valle de Bravo.
A light road snack will be provided along the way.
Once we arrive, you’ll have time for breakfast on your own before exploring this colorful lakeside community.
Depending on timing and group interests, we may explore:
- Artisan markets and local shops
- The lakefront
- Local architecture and culture
- Nearby natural attractions as time allows
We’ll stop for lunch at a traditional local restaurant before continuing deeper into the mountains.
Later in the afternoon, we’ll arrive at our forest cabins, settle in, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Overnight: Forest cabin
Included: Light road snack and dinner
Breakfast & Lunch: On your own
DAY 3 — WEDNESDAY, January 13
Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary
This is the heart of our adventure!
After an included breakfast at the forest cabins, we’ll head toward the monarch butterfly sanctuary.
Our experience includes a local jeep ride into the mountain sanctuary area, followed by hiking on foot through the forest in search of the overwintering monarch colonies.
The monarchs are wild, and their location changes according to temperature, weather, and natural conditions. Because of this, the exact hiking distance and timing may vary.
Participants must be physically capable of hiking at least 2.5 miles on natural forest trails, with additional walking possible depending on the location of the monarch colonies.
Expect uneven trails, hills, rocks and roots, possible mud, changing temperatures, and high elevation.
As we enter the monarch habitat, we may see butterflies clustered in the trees during cooler temperatures and becoming more active as the day warms.
Nature determines what we see—and that’s part of what makes this experience so special.
After our sanctuary experience, we’ll enjoy an included late lunch at Corral de Piedra. Depending on timing and conditions, there may be time to walk, relax by the lake, or enjoy the surroundings before returning to Mexico City that evening.
Overnight: Mexico City hotel
Included: Breakfast and late lunch
Bring: Water and your own trail snacks
DAY 4 — THURSDAY, January 14
Teotihuacán Pyramids
Today we trade mountain forests for ancient history.
We’ll travel from Mexico City to Teotihuacán, where a local guide will introduce us to the history, culture, and architecture of this remarkable ancient city.
Our experience may include:
- Avenue of the Dead
- Pyramid of the Sun
- Pyramid of the Moon
- The Citadel
- Temple of the Feathered Serpent
- Ancient plazas and structures
Expect plenty of walking and limited shade. Comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, and water are important.
We’ll stop for lunch at a local restaurant. Depending on timing and group interest, there may also be an opportunity to visit a local artisan workshop.
We’ll return to Mexico City in the afternoon and enjoy our final evening.
Overnight: Mexico City hotel
Meals: On your own
DAY 5 — FRIDAY, January 15
Departure
Enjoy your final morning in Mexico City before checking out.
Airport transportation will be coordinated according to departure schedules for your flight home from Mexico City International Airport (MEX).

ACTIVITY LEVEL & WHAT TO EXPECT

Participants must be physically capable of hiking at least 2.5 miles on forest trails.
Expect:

- Hills and inclines
- Rocks and roots
- Potential mud
- Several hours outdoors
- Significant elevation

The monarch sanctuary forests can reach elevations of approximately 9,800 feet, so hiking may feel more challenging than it does at lower elevations.
About the Monarchs
The monarch butterflies are wild. Their location and activity depend on weather, temperature, and other natural conditions.
We cannot guarantee the exact location of the colonies, hiking distance required to reach them, number of butterflies flying, or their level of activity.
We’ll follow the guidance of our local guides and sanctuary personnel to experience this remarkable migration respectfully and responsibly.
